A civil marriage performed in Mauritius under Mauritian law is recognized in European Union countries. An affidavit have to be sworn by the couple at Supreme Court in Mauritius and a range of personal details, issued and duly stamped by a solicitor. The marriage certificate will be legalized by an 'Apostils' to register your marriage in your country when you return home.  Civil Marriage Ceremony Wedding WitnessesYour wedding ceremony in Mauritius will be performed by the civil status officer at any place of your choice on the island. Two witnesses are required. The witnesses must be at least 18 years old and submit their passports. If the couple travels alone we will gladly organize for the witnesses. Since each marriage is specific, the documentary requirements may vary. The laws in Mauritius accept documents in English or French. All documents must be translated by an officially authorized translator into English or French and have to be authenticated by a notary. International birth certificates are accepted.
