LA VANILLE CROCODILE PARK        La Vanille Park is a place of discovery, a nature reserve dispersed through 3.5 hectares of luxuriant tropical forest. Here while walking through galleries of palms, ravenalas and giant bamboos one can encounter many different animal species from the islands of the South West Indian Ocean. The Park is located in the south of Mauritius, an area that has still managed to keep its wild and authentic landscapes, where the inhabitants are warm and welcoming. Get in for an unforgettable walk through the luxuriant greenery and discover in complete safety thousands of Nile Crocodiles, watch the feeding and don’t miss the breeding section. After leaving the crocodile section have a visit at the giant tortoises area. La Vanille is the world’s largest captive breeding center for giant Aldabra tortoises, with over 1000 Aldabra tortoises of all sizes. Here you can have the incredible experience of walking amongst herds of these gentle giants. You can meet also the oldest and largest giant tortoise, Domino, who weighs in at 275kg. The park also breeds radiate tortoises. Another attraction in the park is the Insectariums which hold a collection of butterflies and other brightly-coloured insects, approximately 20,000 species, and it is one of the largest and most fascinating in the world. It took Mr. Jacques Siedlecki 30 years of patient work to put together this amazing collection. He will greet you himself and tell you all about his passion for insects. Enjoy a delicious meal at the “Crocodile Affame” restaurant. The restaurant built among the tree-tops will offer you a choice of Mauritian and other dishes, in particular those made with crocodile meat. Snacks and various drinks are also available. Before leaving this magnificent place have a look at the “Crocod’ île shop”. La Vanille is specialize in make their own range of hand bags, wallets and other articles made from farmed crocodile skins, and sold nowhere else, as well as a range of other Mauritian gifts and souvenirs including Mauritian collectables.
